Participation in the Fourth Edition of the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
Professor Abdelhak Azzouzi, President of the United Nations Chair for the Alliance of Civilizations at Euromed University of Fez, took part in the fourth edition of the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, held in Riyadh from 14 to 17 September 2026.
This major international gathering was co-organized by UNESCO and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA) and the International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE).
Bringing together government officials, experts, academics, representatives of international organizations, civil society and the private sector, the Forum provides a major platform for reflection and dialogue on the ethical and inclusive governance of artificial intelligence.
Invited to participate in the high-level dialogue entitled “AI for the People: Towards a Shared Future,” Professor Azzouzi devoted his intervention to the relationship between artificial intelligence, intercultural dialogue and social cohesion.
He emphasized the need to make AI a tool for bringing societies closer together, expanding opportunities and bridging divides, rather than a factor of polarization, exclusion or widening inequalities.
He also stressed the importance of safeguarding human dignity, cultural diversity and the values of peace in a context marked by the unprecedented acceleration of technological transformation.
On this occasion, he presented the main conclusions of the Fez Appeal on the Future of Human Civilization in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, which emerged from the international Forum held on 27 and 28 April 2026 at Euromed University of Fez.
The outcome of a collective reflection involving more than 2,100 participants from 74 countries, the Fez Appeal calls for artificial intelligence that is human-centred, ethical and inclusive, and placed at the service of peace and dialogue among civilizations.
The Chair’s participation in this fourth edition of the Global Forum in Riyadh reflects its commitment to contributing to major international debates on contemporary transformations and to promoting a governance framework for artificial intelligence grounded in universal human values.
