Prof Abdelhak Azzouzi

Professor Abdelhak Azzouzi is today regarded as one of the leading intellectual and academic figures in the Arab world, the Mediterranean region, and the international arena. A university professor, theologian, geopolitical analyst, and advocate of intercultural dialogue, he embodies a rare synthesis of the depth of Morocco’s scholarly tradition and an openness to the major challenges of the contemporary world. His exceptional academic journey, rooted in religious sciences, philosophy, law, international relations, and political science, has earned him international recognition in academic, diplomatic, and institutional circles.

Educated at some of the most prestigious institutions, including Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University, Al-Qarawiyyin University, the Institute of Political Studies of Toulouse (Sciences Po Toulouse), and Toulouse Capitole University, where he obtained a PhD in Political Science at the age of twenty-four—becoming the youngest doctoral graduate in the university’s history—Professor Azzouzi has built an outstanding career that combines spiritual depth, scientific rigor, and universal openness. From an early stage, he established himself as one of the most distinguished specialists in international relations, comparative political science, and civilizational dynamics.

Since 2007, he has served as a Professor of Higher Education at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Social Sciences of Fez. He is also a founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the Euromed University of Fez (UEMF). Since 2023, he has chaired the prestigious United Nations Chair for the Alliance of Civilizations, established in partnership with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), whose High Representative is H.E. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, based in New York. This unique Chair has become a leading international platform dedicated to intercultural dialogue, peace diplomacy, mediation, and conflict management. Among hundreds of candidates worldwide, the United Nations Chair for the Alliance of Civilizations at the Euromed University of Fez recently achieved first place globally, receiving the “Alliance University of the Year” Award at the Triple E Awards 2025, organized by the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU).

Professor Azzouzi’s international reputation has been further strengthened through his organization of the major Fez Forums on the Alliance of Civilizations, the Union for the Mediterranean, and Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. These initiatives have significantly contributed to positioning the city of Fez as a global center for dialogue among cultures and spiritual traditions. The latest edition of the Fez Meetings on the Alliance of Civilizations, held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, brought together more than 2,100 participants from 75 countries, firmly establishing his role as one of the leading architects of rapprochement among peoples, religions, and civilizations. His commitment to peace and international cooperation has led him to speak at some of the world’s most prestigious institutions and forums, including the Italian Parliament, the Vatican, UNESCO, Oxford University, ICESCO, the United Nations, and major academic and strategic institutions throughout Europe, the Arab world, Asia, and Africa.

Professor Azzouzi is also a member of the prestigious international jury of the Foundation of the States of the World and its Mediterranean Foundation, a European institution headquartered in Italy and dedicated to promoting dialogue, peace, and universal values worldwide. In 2026, he chaired the international jury that awarded the Foundation’s distinctions to prominent global figures embodying the ideals of dialogue among civilizations, peace, and human progress.

An influential international columnist, Professor Azzouzi regularly publishes in some of the Arab world’s most prominent media outlets, including Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Jazirah, and Sada El Balad. With more than 2,000 published articles and commentaries, he addresses major geopolitical, civilizational, and strategic issues of our time. He is also the author of an extensive body of scholarly work comprising approximately forty books, studies, and reference publications. His research is particularly renowned in the fields of Moroccan neo-constitutionalism, Euro-Mediterranean relations, public policy, peace studies, and intercultural dialogue.

In 2025, he made a significant contribution to both intellectual and religious scholarship through the publication, by the internationally renowned Al-Bouraq Editions, of a monumental work dedicated to the French translation and exegesis of the Holy Qur’an. Published in three volumes totaling nearly 3,200 pages according to both the Warsh and Hafs recitations, this remarkable achievement has been widely praised in academic and spiritual circles alike. It reflects exceptional scholarship and a profound commitment to building bridges among cultures, languages, and religious traditions. His recent appearance on one of France’s leading television channels to discuss this work was followed by millions of viewers around the world, further enhancing his international intellectual influence.

Professor Abdelhak Azzouzi has received several prestigious international distinctions, including the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters awarded by the French Ministry of Culture, the Prize of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean in Malta, and the Medal of Honor of Toulouse Capitole University.
