The 3rd Summit of African and Euro-Mediterranean Youth of Euromed University of Fez

Civic Responsibility and Living Together
in Light of the 3rd Summit of African and Euro-Mediterranean Youth of Euromed University of Fes
Academy of the Kingdom, Rabat, January 19, 2026
Taking the floor at the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, African and Euro-Mediterranean students of Euromed University of Fez, under the supervision of the United Nations Chair for the Alliance of Civilizations, brilliantly demonstrated their ability to break taboos and transcend constraints in order to express, in their own way, how civic responsibility can be rethought and how new pathways can be charted toward a world reconciled with the demands of our time. Organized on January 19, 2026, under the supervision of the United Nations Chair for the Alliance of Civilizations and the UNAOC (United Nations Alliance of Civilizations), in partnership with the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology, this third Summit of African and Euro-Mediterranean Youth of Euromed University of Fez was a resounding success, marked by the quality of its panels, the relevance of the analyses, and the accuracy of the visions expressed, free from any form of empty rhetoric. The summit was devoted to civic responsibility and the pluralism of values—a theme chosen in keeping with the scientific vocation of the organizing institutions, enabling young participants to express a forward-looking civic commitment.
The summit brought together young people representing more than forty nationalities, along with experts and academic scholars. Several Moroccan and international figures took part in the opening session, including: Mr. Abdeljalil Lahjomri, Permanent Secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco; Mr. Omar Fassi Fihri, Permanent Secretary of the Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology; Prof. Mostapha Bousmina, President of Euromed University of Fez and Chancellor of the Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology; Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, United Nations High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations; and Prof. Abdelhak Azzouzi, President of the United Nations Chair for the Alliance of Civilizations and member of the Board of Directors of Euromed University of Fez.
Euromed University of Fez has already organized, through the United Nations Chair for the Alliance of Civilizations, two editions of this summit: the first dedicated to African and Euro-Mediterranean youth, solemnly hosted by the Moroccan Parliament in Rabat; and the second held at Euromed University of Fez on the sidelines of the United Nations Global Forum on the Alliance of Civilizations, under the theme “Rebuilding Trust for a United and Plural World,” organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The summit emphasized that civic education requires not only respect for rules and institutional frameworks, but also the internalization of ethical principles that underpin communal life in all its richness and complexity, as well as respect for the environment of our living space, with territorial integrity regarded as an imperative of active and effective civic responsibility. It was also underscored that the role of state institutions and the world of knowledge—by placing youth at the heart of the debate—is of the utmost importance in nurturing this reflection and promoting the dissemination of civic values among younger generations.
More than a simple intellectual exchange, the young organizers sought to make this summit a moment of deep reflection and a strong call for a salutary awakening, so that civic responsibility may once again become the guiding thread in strengthening societies in search of new reference points.
Various areas of expertise were addressed during the summit, including: Moroccan youth united around the Sahara; solidarity and active citizenship in the service of national unity; manifestations of the crisis of civic responsibility and values; civic responsibility, otherness, and diversity as pillars of a harmonious society; pluralism of values and civic engagement—an equilibrium to be built; human bonds in the age of hyperconnectivity; education and civic responsibility—what assessment and what prospects? citizenship, civic responsibility, and solidarity in times of security and humanitarian crisis; and perspectives and actions for more humane societies.
Held in the form of plenary sessions and presentations, the summit fulfilled all its promises, once again demonstrating that Euromed University embodies more than ever the ambition defined at its founding, at the initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as a space for encounter among the region’s driving forces and its inventive and creative intelligences.
The panel discussions and debates concluded with a set of recommendations.
